Best monitor now-a-days?

Postposted on Sat May 01, 2010 3:08 am

I'm currently using a 20" Dell Ultrasharp circa 2005. I've been thinking about going to a 24" for a while now, but never had the reason in doing so because i rarely used my desktop. Now that i'm finishing up school, i can get back to gaming, and ill be starting an internship soon where the extra real estate at home would be a welcome addition.

So that leads me to ask, is the Dell Ultrasharp still top dog? It seems as though the U2410 is the best one currently out for Dell with a IPS panel in the 24 inch range.
Any other brands to consider such as HP? I'm just currently weighing my options at the moment, not in a rush to pick one up yet.

What kind of budget do you have?

The U2410 is great. I have one and it's fantastic. A lot of people also like a very similar HP model.

I like the dell's ergonomics with tilt, height adjust and swivel a lot and their stands are always nice. I think most of the complaints of the first model (A00) have been taken care of with revision A01. If you were to order now, i'd suspect you'd get an A01 so no worries there.

Another option might be the new dell 27 incher. That really probably depends on your budget though.

Any of those three monitors would be a great buy. Look for deals and coupons if they seem to be expensive. Ebay usually has some decent deals too.

The UltraSharp U2410 is great. 8) It's recently been on sale for under $450 from Dell. Keep an eye on the deal sites to make certain that you don't pay over $500.

Of course, if you're willing to spend over $1000, a 30" 2560x1600 monitor is even more impressive. :o

I asked a similar question recently, and Kurotetsu suggested the HP ZR24w that you can get for $400 shipped. I've been very happy with it for the past two weeks.

If you are intersted in other models, eight or nine monitors were proposed. It's funny that someone (who is knowledgable about monitors) said, "Some good suggestions in this thread", but didn't indicate which suggestions he thought were good or bad.

I found a craigslist posting for a U2410 brand new and sealed for $400, ill be picking it up as soon as i'm done with finals. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I was looking at the U2711 for a while and as much as i would love to have that high of a resolution, i don't think i could justify spending another 400-500 for it. Plus a top of the line graphic card at every upgrade interval... it would cost a lot more in the long run. But i do foresee two 24's in the future! :P

I like my $150 Dell 23" 1080p display. I'd take 2 of them for $300 over a 24" for $400. But that's just me.

Does it have a full warranty from Dell?

In that thread, arsenhazzard convinced me that the U2711 was the opposite of a sweet spot, in between a 3007WFP and the U2410 (and their typical discounts).
