HDMI Audio and Monitor Inputs

Fri May 07, 2010 2:36 pm

I recently helped a friend setup a HP 2709M monitor that we've connected to a Sony notebook using an HDMI cable. My friend called me after I left to inform me that when the HDMI cable is conncted to the notebook, the notebooks headphone outputs no longer work as all audio is routed to the monitor. Because he has room mates its best for him to use headphone (particularly at night) and I'm trying to find a way to still use the headphone output while using the hdmi connection.

You should be able to change the default audio output device in the control panel. What operating system is your friend using? Alternatively, you can disable HDMI audio entirely.
