Enter here for a shot at a GeForce GTX 460 or Metro 2033

Fri Aug 06, 2010 2:21 pm

We have more goodies to give away. This time, MSI has supplied us with 18 licenses for the PC version of Metro 2033, which our resident graphics expert thinks is one of the best-looking games on the market right now. In addition to boasting DirectX 11 tessellation and depth-of-field eye candy, Metro 2033 offers PhysX-accelerated physics effects for folks with recent GeForce graphics cards. And we have one of those to hand out, too: MSI's GTX460 Cyclone 1GB OC. The Cyclone kicks Nvidia's latest GeForce GTX 460 up a notch, raising the GPU's core frequency by 50MHz and its shader speed by 100MHz above stock values.

This is good stuff, so we're going to make you work for it. Anyone who's familiar with TR knows that we have a penchant for quality photography. PC components don't always offer much in the way of visual flair, but with a little creativity, good lighting, and careful cropping, we can usually come up with at least one shot that has some sort of artistic merit. The question is, can you?

For the next week, we'll be accepting submissions for an impromptu PC photography contest. TR editors will judge the submissions on creativity and overall picture quality, so the hardware in focus need not be anything particularly impressive or even recent. Photos can be posted in this thread, and you can submit as many as you'd like. Only one prize per person, though. We'll be checking IP addresses to make sure folks don't game the system with multiple accounts. Those who try risk being banned from the forums and front-page comments.

In the interest of sanity, we're going to cap the size of submissions at 1600 pixels wide. Naturally, any photo submitted should be your own original work. And, please, keep it clean. Google and Flickr both offer free image hosting if you need somewhere to drop your shots.

We'd like to limit this thread to submissions only. However, we have started another thread to discuss the contest. We've also given a couple of copies of Metro 2033 to Dposcorp and SpotTheCat, the tireless moderators who keep an eye on things in our Visual Haven forum.

The old never die...they just get older. And occasionally stop working. It's actually pretty great having a computer that will shutoff by itself (cause unknown) when you use it to watch random shows to fall asleep to, although I'd prefer the Xbox 360 just start support MKV instead.

My backup device, circa 1995. One and a half decades later, it still works perfectly on the same LS-120 disks, unlike some zipdrives. I got this way back when Iomega was churning out nothing but garbage (even to this day  )!

Well a contest is always good motivation to get us lurkers to post. This is actually my first attempt at anything artistic, photography wise at least.

swapped the photo with a slightly retouched version, just gave it a little more sharpness :)
i so wanted to toss this one in for fun, it was a family members machine; just some gigantic and amazingly slow 8gb hard drive in a circa 2006 emachines, mini atx case, i was in the process of removing the drive, it was a temp for the previous one that died... :D

Here's a Sunfire T1000 "Niagara" server with 32GB of memory, two SLC solid-state drives in RAID0, two 10GBe ports, and four Gigabit network ports. 24 threads all running at less than 150 Watts:
