Hello i'm currently in the market for a new monitor. and i found a post on craigslist for a 20" apple monitor for $225.What i'm trying to find out is if the apple monitors use an ips panel or tn.It's model number A1081 all i can find online are the standard specs which are needless to say less than impressive. 1680x1050 res 400-1 contrast 14ms response times only one dvi port, all kind of crappy specs for even a new monitor in the 225 range forget used, but if it actually used an ips panel it would kinda explain the price/specs a little more and i defiantly might try to jump on a nice ips panel for 225.Sorry wasn't sure if this should go here or in apple sanctuary? So can anyone tell me what panel this is? and if so do you think it,s worth the 225 despite the other specs? i'll mainly be using it for movies and web browsing with a fair bit of gaming thrown in but mostly the first 2.I'm also a bit of stickler when comes to my movies i'm the type that gets really irritated if the colors or contrast seem even a bit off.

That seems like a TN. I'm only saying that because of the viewing angles. I couldn't find it online either, at least explicitly.

yay that's the problem i'm having.I keep finding forums post were people are saying apples are better because they use ips panels.yet i can't find anything more solid like a spec sheet confirming it, list of model numbers that have the ips panels, or just a non vague concrete "all" apples monitors use ips panels.

Apple hasn't used non-IPS panels in their monitors for a very long time now (if ever, not sure). If you want something more concrete, the specs page I found gives it 170 degree viewing angles, which I'm pretty sure means it has to be IPS.

another quick question are apple monitors compatible with pc's?? i mean i would assume that it would be. A dvi ports a dvi port and a monitors a monitor, but who knows it's apple after all.

Thanks for the help guys.In the end i decided not to get it.$225 was just to much me for considering the specs on that monitor.Even if it was an ips panel and had a apple logo the resolution, response times, and lowly 400:1 contrast ratio was just a little hard to swallow at that price.I ended up getting a hp 2310 monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824176159. My local best buy had an open box for $199 and i was still able to get the black tie warranty for $40.I was close to picking up the 21" ips panel from dell, But decided i'd rather save the exstra money. Also the peace of mind that if it breaks.I can take this down to best buy any time within next 4 years and get a brand new one in it's place or a gift card helped alot as well.So far i'm pretty happy with it. The screens nice and bright and after a little calibration the colors aren't to bad either.
