I usually don't advise getting cards larger than 16GB because if that card gets corrupted when it's nearly full, you are talking about more than 300 RAW images lost!
If your friend insists on using a 32GB card, then get the best. Sandisk Extreme Class 6 or Class 10 or Extreme Pro Class UHS-1 are fine choices, but they can cost more than what he budgeted for. Class 6 is adequate (Sandisk Extreme HD Video, rated 20MB/s) unless your friend shoots a lot of high-speed bursts in RAW format.
BTW I am using a EOS60D with Sandisk Extreme Class 10 SDHC with a capacity of... you guessed it, 16GB.
