Monitor shot or something else?

Getting a weird problem lately with my Dell 2408WFP monitor.

When it wakes from being asleep a long time, I'm getting a vertical yellow line either a pixel or 2 wide down the width of the screen, about 2 inches from the right side. The hue of the line changes colour depending on the image that's being projected behind (Yellow if white, green if blue, black remains black). After some time, like things are warming up, the line will disappear. Tried switching the port on the graphics card that the monitor is plugged into, didn't have an effect.

Thoughts on the source of the problem?

Analog, DVI-D or HDMI?

Good point. DVI-I right now.

Things I haven't done yet (mostly because it requires cleaning a good portion of my desk):
- Switching from the DVI-I port to the HDMI-mini (will also need to get adapters)
- Plugging into the second DVI-I port on the monitor
- Switching to VGA

This sounds like a monitor problem. Trying the other ports on the monitor certainly couldn't hurt.

That's most likely the monitor. Try a different resolution and see if the artifact shows in the same location. If yes then it's almost 100% the monitor. But the only way to be sure would be to plug the monitor into a different source (anything with HDMI out should work or another PC) or a different video card on the same PC or plug a different monitor into the PC.

Artifacts that come or go with changes in temperature are usually caused by failing connections or components in the device.

How old is this unit and how much use does it get?
