Hello fellow gerbils,

I am in the process of U/G my entire system and have decided to go the LEGO way - one piece at a time.

From:
    ASUS A8N-E
    Athlon64 1800+
    4GB DDR400 Kingston
    MSI RX600XT-TD128E
    Thermaltake V3 Black
    Dell m782p
To (so far):
    MSI Z77A-GD55
    i5-3570K
    8GB DDR-1600 (2x4) Corsair Low Profile
    CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
    Thermaltake V3 Black

I've removed the the graphics card 'cos a graphics card breakdown list on Tom's listed that card *well* below Intel's HD4000. Since I'm mainly playing Warcraft right now that gets me by. I'm using this as a general purpose/gaming rig this suits me just fine.

Next up in no particular order:
Quiet case (Antec p280, NZXT H2, Fractal Designs Define R4, Corsair Obsidian 550D)
Gaming Mouse (probably SteelSeries Cataclysm 15 Button)
Gaming K/B (No Idea yet - but Cherry switches *may/will* be involved)
Video Card (likely nVidia - unless AMD releases an U/G to the memory controller)
    and of course monitor.

Specifically thinking about the ASUS VS229H-P $154.99 'cos it's on sale.

I'm throwing the door open to all comments, advice and criticisms.

...and as promised...

(taken from the feedback section for that very monitor)

Cons: Stand is a little wobbly. I notice it if I pay attention, but it's not an issue while gaming as I'm not paying attention to the monitor.

That just made me laugh.

I've seen the Asus VS239H-P on sale for ~$160 after MIR. I'd keep my eye on that. I own one and am very pleased with it. Definetly noticed a color improvement over my old 21" TN panel.

Bitblaster, DPete27, and auxy share their love of ASUS VS-series IPS monitors!
So great, so great~! I have two wall-mounted VS229H-Ps! Awesome!

My remarks on your other choices:
  • Case: Go with the R4. Others are too big or too overpriced! (‘◇’) I'd say go with an even smaller case but you already got that big silly ATX motherboard. Maybe a Lian-Li PC-A05 or A55 would suit your needs, although I feel a little hypocritical complaining about overpriced cases and then recommending Lian-Li...
  • Mouse: CORSAIR VENGEANCE M95! Steelseries is overpriced garbage.
  • Keyboard: I used to use a Corsair Vengeance K90, but I use a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid with Cherry MX Red switches now. Same switches; smaller keyboard, and I use the macro functions of the K90 at work now.
  • GPU: Right now it's tough to recommend anything, because they're all garbage. ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌ Nvidia has crap memory bandwidth on Kepler series unless you spend $1K on a Titan, and AMD has buggy drivers... if AMD fixes the memory manager on the GCN series I'd probably go with a 7950, but otherwise save up for a GTX670 -- it's the cheapest Geforce that won't totally nosedive on performance with 4x MSAA enabled.

Also, you may not care, but that purple font on your sig is almost impossible to read on the dark forum theme -- at least on this cheap HP monitor I have at work.
