Have you confirmed that a Go Pro Hero 3 can even stream live output to its HDMI port? It would be very unusual for a camera at this level to be able to do that. I looked at the manual on the Go Pro site and didn't see any indication that it can do that. It records everything to memory card and then can play that stuff back to the HDMI output, but I'm not sure it can stream live output to its HDMI port.

I use a card similar to this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6815100098 for capture, but my card doesn't support 1080p, where this card does.
Just wanted to note that this card only supports 1080p30 recording.

Cheap capture card with HDMI to H.264 using hardware encoder.

H.264 streaming to disk is good, rather than 900GB of raw data per hour. I'll pass this on and see what comes of it :)

Not only that, but they list a lowly P4 @ 2GHz as min. system required... And there is a 4 port model for a bit more than a grand! Call me impressed :)
