700mhz celeron...@876mhz

Thu Jun 06, 2002 11:31 am

i was fooling around with a comp at my shop today and i got the cpu to (celeron700mhz) jump to 876. but the wierd thing is the mulitplier was already unlocked. are the celerons unlocked from the factory? i dont think they are. so i pushed the cpu to the max with the cooling that i have.

Are you *sure* you actually changed the multiplier? Because most motherboards will still give you the option to change it in BIOS, but it has no actual effect.

Your 876 would come from 10.5(Celeron 700 locked multiplier)*83MHz FSB. Is this the FSB speed you used? If so, then the multiplier was still locked and you were doing pure FSB speed overclocking. (Which is still good :) )

Just for kicks, try it at a different multiplier, but with the stock 66MHz bus. If you still get 700MHz, then you have a normal, locked Celeron. If not, then good for you. :)

 From what I've heard and experienced the older Celerons with a default bus of 66FSB will hit 100FSB every time, usually even without a better HSF installed. Just be sure the RAM is rated at PC100 speeds!
I'm doing my best to catch up but life's still just too busy.

~700 Celerons~

Fri Jun 07, 2002 7:28 pm

I have yet to run a 700 Celeron on the 100mhz buss speed, just call me 'chicken' but when the applied voltage gets close to 2V I start to get jittery.
LOTS of 650 at the 100mhz buss and the last 1/2 dozen 800's I bought at the 133mhz buss (135mhz to be exact), but for me the 700 is not a 'goer'.
