Overclock a Celeron 766?

Thu Oct 17, 2002 1:39 am

My parents computer has a Celeron 766 @ 66 FSB (coppermine I think) and it's driving me nuts just to use it while mine is out of comission. Does anyone know how well, if at all, these o/c? It's an Intel 810 chipset on an Asus board where the only o/cing comes from jumpers on the board. Thanks.
my system breaks every other day....currently--no OpenGL on my TI4400???? what the...?

Probably will not be a good overclocker. The 766 (733?) has an 11 multiplier and bumping the FSB up to 100MHz will up the speed to 1100 MHz, probably too fast for your older celeron. You might be able to bump the memory up to 100 MHz, which will give you a nice boost.

That's what I thought was kind of wierd. The memory is already at 100 by default. The jumpers do allow me to hit some intermediate FSB speeds between 66 and 100 (68, 70, 75, 80), but I just don't know if it would be worth the hassle (HP microATX...very frustrating to get at).

I keep thinking that it's a 733 also, but it's really not.
HP Specs:
Base processor and speed
Intel Celeron 766 MHz processor
Socket 370
66 MHz FSB speed
Chipset
Intel 810

What the heck is it doing with a multiplier of 11.6? :-?

it should be running at 11.5*66.6 so the multiplier is still 11.5 and you're as close to 766 as possible (~759)

and overclocking is worth a try, just grab some tweezers to get at the jumpers

Thought I was missing something!! 66.6 MHz, should have known.

I'd still give it a whack, you might not be able to get to 100 MHz FSB, but 75 or 83 MHz might be possible.
