Overclocking GF4

Tue Jan 07, 2003 6:23 pm

I was curious how I would go about overclocking my visiontek gf4 ti4200. Anyone really familiar how to do that? Also, should I add in some RAMsinks or any other special cooling so i don't melt my video card? lol

thanks.

Google for Coolbits. Apply the registry file you find from your Googling. Reboot. Open Display Properties, Advanced. You should see an Overclocking tab. Play with the sliders. Reboot often upon GFX crashes until a sane OC determined.

Adding RAMsinks and the lot might get 2-5 MHz over basic OC results; not really worth it.

As for your Ti4200, you can get 250/500 right off the bat. 300/500 shouldn't be hard, either. My MSI 4200 is running at 305/577 24/7.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

i got the thing installed and i can bring up the Clock Freq. tab.. in the example on the CoolBits page i got it from it shows the sliders showing values of the freq. like 300/650 for a 4600.. however my sliders go from 0 to 100MHz.

does that mean how much i can add to the base frequency? (0 being a base freq)

what are the default frequency's for a 4200?

I have never used COOLBITS but I do use PowerStrip. Go to cnet.com and download it there. It was not very complicated for me. When you start it up it puts the card at default clock speeds. Then you can use the sliders to increase the clock speeds to whatever you want. Enjoy the increases.

Default clock speeds are 250MHz core/500MHz Memory for the Ti4200.

Only for the 64MB version. For the 128MB version (like mine), it's 250/444. So, getting 305/577 out of a 128MB card is just peachy to me.

I bought the 128MB Ti4200 and its default was set at 250/500. I thought that was just marketing hype for the 64MB cards. Either way, he should have all the info he needs now.

OC speeds

Hi. Ok, you don't say whether it is a 64mb or 128mb card. Visiontek produce their Ti4200 cards on the smaller 6 layered PCB design rather than the longer 8 layered PCB design which the Ti4400/4600's and enhanced Ti4200's adopt. If you have the 64mb version, this will most likely be loaded with 3.6ns memory, which has a thoretical peak clock speed of 550mhz. The default clock speed will be around 500mhz, so a 50mhz OC will be more or less garanteed, but expect to obtain clock speeds of around 600+mhz. If your using the 128mb version, this will probably be probably loaded with 4.0ns memory, which has a theoretical peak clock speed of 500mhz, and a default clock speed of 444mhz. Expect an OC of at least 550+mhz if that is the case. As for the core of the card, that'll be using the NV25, which is the exact same core in which the bigger brother Ti4600 uses, and thus designed for 300mhz clock speeds, so expect to OC the GPU from the default 250mhz in your Ti4200 to 300+mhz. The NV25 can usually hit speeds of around 320-330mhz! Personally, I've managed to get a Chaintech GT20 GF4 Ti4200 (128mb/4.0ns RAM) stable at 325/585mhz on the core/memory, which is very similar indeed to the PCB design and layout to your card.
