X6 1055T overclocking - Northbridge Freq

Wed Feb 02, 2011 7:33 pm

So I just popped in a 1055t (14x multi) open box from Newegg and within the hour I'm relatively stable @
1.53V
295x14 = 4130MHZ
HT x7 = 2065 1.3 something v
NB x7 = 2065 1.275v
DDR2 @ 2.1v 980 5-5-5-13 2T (I know there's a bit of headroom left here)

Coretemp/Overdrive reads 18c idle (good water cooling), which sounds ridiculous since my x2 550 @3.8 would idle at 30c

Anything over 4150 won't make it into Windows and higher/lower voltages don't help - doesn't matter I'm happy with this OC

But I can't seem to get the NB Freq up any higher. I have tried upping and lowering the voltage and it's always a no-go. I have seen some benchmarks with higher NB freq on overclocked Phenom II's and sometimes there is a nice increase. Any ideas? On my board, changing the NB voltage also changes the HT voltage...not sure how high I can go. I have heard that 1.35v on the NB is fine but at that setting my HT is over 1.4v.

HAAAAALLLPPP.

Okay so I lowered the HT link multi (1770) and was immediately able to boot in @ 2360 NB and also posted a faster superpi score right off the bat. Time to keep trying.

Well, couldn't find much stability with different NB settings. Ended up just running prime with the first settings I posted, load showed 42c. Walked downstairs to let a friend in, came back up, computer was off, and I could smell that not so familiar electronics burning smell. Went out for a few hours, thought about it, came back, tried it again - no-go. Plugged in another power supply and the board came on. Tried original power supply again, board came on again. Ran PSU calculator, and I was definitely pretty close to the limits of my oldish 600w PSU.

Ordered a 1200W Mushkin for $100. Not bad. Currently running the old PSU that was burning with stock Bios settings and everything is okay. Gonna leave it that way and not stress anything/play games till I get the new PSU and then try again.
