CM Hyper 212+ install question

Hello,

So I finally got around to installing my new CPU heatsink. This was my first time installing a heatsink with the exception of when I put my system together last May. Everything went smooth however I noticed that when I was tucking in my cables and closing my case, I bumped the heatsink and it shifted a little. I double checked the mounting screws an they were as tight as I could get them. I fired up the system regardless and the results were good. 47c was the highest my temps went running prime95 and mark 11 benchmarks. Should I be concerned that the heatsink had some give when I bumped it? I will continue to monitor my temps either way, I am definitely satisfied with how quiet the thing is! I even put my case fans on low and now the loudest part in my system are my hard drives...time for ssd's I suppose. My system specs are in my sig.

You know, I noticed the same thing with mine. It can kind of... slide around a little on the CPU. Or it did when the paste was fresh. Just a little lateral give. But it doesn't seem to be a problem.

A little slide is fine.

I observed a VERY small bit of slide, not much.

You're certain it shifted and didn't bend/crimp the heatpipes, right? I doubt you could actually do that from a slight bump but I've heard horror stories of heatsinks slumping over crumpled heatpipes.

If it just shifted a bit atop still-wet thermal paste, it's probably not a big deal unless there was no margin for error in the contact area of the heatsink (unlikely).

Thanks for the replies. It definitely just slid on the wet thermal paste. I just wasn't expecting it since the original heatsink was on there so tight. makes me feel a bit more comfortable that others had a similar experience.

Yeah, when I had that happen this thread made me feel better - 41 under load did too mind you.

Mine slid a bit as well. One thing I was careful about was over tightening the screws though. I think I did 10-12 twists on each screw and it was plenty tight.

I wasn't even sure it would fit in my case, I measured and knew it should fit but it was close. In the end I have about 5mm between the side wall of my case and the top of the heat pipes.
