HDD not working...

Fri Feb 28, 2003 6:51 pm

The other day I was going to give FreeBSD a go on my computer. I wanted to make a seperate partition for it. So I downloaded OS Loader or something from DOWNLOAD.com, which said it would make partitions for many OS's. When I ran it, it tried to "fix" my HDD on reboot. The process hung my computer. When I rebooted, alas, not even a boot disk for: win2k, XP, win98, FreeBSD would do anything. The floppy drive just comes on. I would like to be able to fix this hard drive without formatting it. Any Ideas? I think that the main partition got shifted off the first sector.

Joe.

P.S. If I am right, is there anyway to fix the partition?

You might try fdisk and see if the partitions are still there. The best I can think of is fdisk /mbr to correct the master boot record.. but it really depends on what the OS loader did to your MBR..
