external hard drive purchase, need recommendations

Thu Sep 27, 2012 6:24 pm

I use Westernal Digital drives now, but are there any other companies worth getting, like Seagate?

For retailers, the obvious choice is Newegg, and I have no reason to not buy from them, but I am curious if there are any obvious alternatives. I checked out NCIX US, but the way they sort products is not as powerful as Newegg and it's harder to find products. Any other retailers?

I hear alot of folks in the States talk about this place, its even better if a brick and mortar one is close by.

For myself, I have never bought the all in one solutions, I just find good deals on good h/d and by an enclosure for it.

WD and Seagate are my first choices for external hdds. I trust both equally, so it really comes down to price.

Amazon is always a good place to price check, even for computer parts. Most of their products incur free shipping on orders over $25 (which your external hard drive is sure to exceed)
