Serillel2 SATA vs IDE question

Wed Jul 02, 2003 3:51 pm

I just got my new Abit NF7-S motherboard today and I notice this "serillel2" box packaged with it. I don't currently own any SATA
drives, but I'm wondering if I hook up my Hitachi 7200 ATA100 drive up using this thing I'll experience any benefits rather than just hooking it up the 'old school' way

thanks!

There isn't any performance advatage in using an adapter, it just allows you to use the smaller SATA cableing, which looks nicer and can help with airflow in cramped cases.

And if that sounds familiar to anyone it's because I pasted it from a post I made in the AMD section just a few minutes ago...

I had problems with the board what I thought was grounding out...I have LED case fans that would "blink" for a split second when power was turned on, then the board would hang. I assumed something was grounding out, so I stripped the thing bare, hooked up just the video card, and it would post just fine. But as soon as I got it put back together, and made even a single hardware change, it did the same thing. After trying all sorts of grounding methods, different hardware, etc I swapped the power suppy. Apparently the 300 watt PS that I was using was the culprit, because with the new 350 everything seems normal.
