Serial ATA as Pri. boot HD issue.

Mon Jul 14, 2003 10:45 pm

Hey guys, need a little help here if I can. Just recently got me a new WD Raptor SATA drive and I can't seem to install XP on it. It is being detected by my SATA Raid utility which runs right after post but XP doesn't pick it up on the install. Question 1: where should the jumper be on the back of the drive? Question 2: Do I need to hit F6 at the XP prompt and install the SATA drivers from floppy first? Question 3: How should my boot options be in BIOS or should I disable everything? Thanks for any help!

Yes, you need to hit F6 to instal the driver for the SATA controller. When you do that it will show up so an install windows on it.

Thanks friend, looks like it's coming along smoothly. Yet, I have another question for you. I will be getting another WD Raptor within 2 days and have the two Raided. If I set up my current Raptor with XP and all my software and create a ghost disk, will I be able to use it on my two Raided Raptors?

You should be able to ghost it onto the array, but I personally would do a full reinstall.
