Raid 5 help

Postposted on Mon Apr 29, 2013 10:06 pm

So my raid 5 array was degraded which happens from time to time. It usually gets fixed if i jiggle the cable for a little bit. It's been a while since it's happened but from what I remember I just delete the array, make a new one with the same name and settings and usually everything is fine. But this time it's not fine.

I reinitialized it but the drive is not showing?
How do I get my data back? Right now it's just showing as unallocated. I don't want to create a volume for the fear that I might lose my data. Or maybe I already have :(

Alright, I got it recovered. What I did was run a partition recovery software and got my data back.

But now is definitely the time to run a backup. Remember kids, back up often.

You got some ghetto RAID 5 if it fails often enough to have a "jiggle the cable" workaround. You should specify what hardware or software you use for your RAID setup so other people know to avoid it! :D
