I'm running Windows XP Professional. When ever I connect to the internet I get this dam bubble telling me my connection rate how do I get rid of this dam thing so when I connect to the internet it won't pop up?

This probably isn't the only way, but if you grap WinXP Powertoys from the Microsoft website, then load up Tweak UI. There's an option to turn off "balloon tips" under the Taskbar settings.
