VirtualBox - Supported host operating systems include Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2 Warp, Windows, and Solaris, while supported guest operating systems include FreeBSD, Linux, OpenBSD, OS/2 Warp, Windows and Solaris. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions available.

By far better than Microsoft's VirtuaPC and better than VMWare and Parallels in my book (considering that it's free).

Edit- Latest version, 2.0.2, supports 64-bit guests on 64-bit hosts.

ffdshow is known to consume way less cpu time than DivX

There is a newer ffdshow project that supports more formats/codecs. It's very handy for loading just about any video format/codec into VirtualDub.

Kind of like QuickSilver for the Mac. It allows you to launch apps and open files from a bar that launches on a customizable key combination. It's got a lot of plugins that do various things.

Burning Programs
Burrrn - Only for audio burning, but it is good at doing it.

imgburn - Burning anything else. Technically this can burn audio CDs as well, just have to create a cue sheet to do that, which imgburn can do. It is an extra step I don't want to make when I can do it a few clicks in burrrn. It can burn data discs, create an image from disc or folder (not an emulation program). Both are low profile. I prefer having 2 good burning programs than one bloated one. This also has good support, for questions or problems on their forums. Does update sometimes.

I am full time PC technician, here's some of the things I use all the time on customer's computers:

Security
antivirus - avira is the best (free) but avast is the coolest. i still haven't (and won't) reverted from "Talk Like a Pirate Day".
i used AVG for many years, but (sorry to say) it's crap anymore. although the AVG2011 "social networking" feature looks nice, I've just seen too much malware/virus' slip past AVG in the past 6 months to try it again.

surprised as heck i haven't seen malwarebytes antimalware mentioned.
i understand the free version doesn't have a resident shield, but it's still the best at detection and removal (albeit after the fact)

i clean dozens of malware infections a month, and i've had mbam catch stuff that every other program has missed.
also, mbam has a tool (fileassasin) that will remove locked files)

another tool that should have been mentioned by now is ComboFix. again, it's useful only after infection has occured, but it does a remarkable job.

Spyware Blaster is another great tool, but it's for PREVENTION. blocks access in IE & Firefox to nearly 14k known malicious websites. (many of which are common graphic ad hosts)

I found a FF based browser called PaleMoon. I've been using Pale Moon for a few weeks now and it seems to be quite a bit faster than regular FF but with all the main features. (imported my FF profile without any problems, including extensions, addons, saved form data, etc)

Hi everyone. My question is which ones will run on a Windows 64 bit system and are free, too?

MusePack is the proven best audio encoder, as long as you don't need portability.
MP3Gain: equalize the volume of your mp3s. No more fiddling with volume dials. It is lossless.

Matroska should replace avi everywhere. AVI is Evil.

RAM is still reasonably cheap and for those not sure what to do with extra RAM why not a RAM disk? You can place your virtual memory there and also the files from the browser cache for instance.

The following software used to be quite expensive but since the version 3.3.3 it has become freeware, it is available in 32- and 64-bit, has no ads, and does exactly what it says on the tin:
