Computer Beep

Tue Sep 24, 2002 8:39 am

Hi,

My computer recently encountered a problem, nothing would boot.

However, upon startup, the computer gives off 4 beeps.

A friend once told me that they are a code which signifys which part of the computer has the problem. I think that 2 is for RAM, but I cant remember what 4 is for.

Can someone help please???

What motherboard is it? And what duration is there between the beeps?

I.e. 1 short.. 2 long.. 1 short? etc.. :)

In this forum thread, Kevin lists one mobo's lists of beeps. May not match yours because each mfr differs.

Check out:

http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/phoenix/new.htm
or
http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/phoenix/old.htm

The first is 1994 to present, so it is more likely. I did not see any that listed a single series of 4 beeps.

Check your documentation. It might explain what 4 beeps mean.

If you don't have it, go to the motherboard manufacturer's site and download it.
