A case for CSI: 9/08/2052 & WFXMOD32.EXE error

Fri Feb 14, 2003 7:48 am

While troubleshooting the ASP portion of a FP2K web, using FP2K, Fireworks, WS FTP, Corel, I was greeted with the following error:

"WFXMOD32.EXE has generated an error and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

Rebooting several times did not correct.

And Fireworks would not load it's native png format.

BUT, I did notice that some of my files displayed the date: 9/08/2052???

Upon checking and resetting the correct date then rebooting, the problem cleared up and everything is ok now.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Herb

Could it be a virus?

Advised to replace CMOS batt.

Mon Feb 17, 2003 8:58 am

Thanks for the response

I dont think so as I ran anti virus twice to no avail. Was advised it may be a weak CMOS battery.

Replacement scheduled Tuesday if ice melts.

Sometimes, viruses can mask themselves when they detect NAV in the process list. There is a way around this

When you startup windows, bring up the task manager(Ctl Alt Del)

Manually kill the file wfxmod32.exe (right click and end process)

Try running the programs and see if the problem still persists

Date jumping

FC34,

Thanks for the advice. Ill give it a try and let you guys know. FYI, I was able to correct the problem by resetting the date to today's date. All worked ok as before.

Someone suggested that the CMOS battery was the culprit. That may be because mine is 4-5 yr old.

Thanks,

Herb
