Is windows 7 transferable to a new build?

Is Windows 7 OEM or retail transferable to a completely new/different build.

I believe with Windows 7 OEM you can only upgrade the cpu. If you upgrade the mobo M$ might not allow activation on the new motherboard. But I could be wrong.

retail, yes but you need to decommission the previous.

OEM needs to stay with the build.

I've had to re-establish after major changes, and never had any resistance.

As long as it isn't more than one box at a time, they don't give you a hard time.

of course, I don't describe it as a replacement build, just replacement parts, so that might help. :D

According to the letter of the EULA they won't allow you to replace the motherboard, however, it has been my experience that you can usually transfer an OEM license to another computer via phone activation.
