ActiveX controls in IE8 compatibility mode

Postposted on Fri Jul 01, 2011 11:33 am

Got a user with an old Web-based app which seems to require IE6, because of an outdated ActiveX control that won't be updated further. Venduh tech support (whom I don't particularly trust) claims that IE8 will run the (old, practically unsupported) app fine if the site's set to compatibility mode. I can't test this myself because I don't have an account, and the user's too busy right now anyway.

So does the vendor's claim make sense? Does IE8's IE6 compatibility mode extend to ActiveX? I STFG'd and can't seem to find anything yea or nay.
Think for yourself, schmuck!
