I added the WMC Add-On to W8 Pro but still I cannot play Blu-Ray video. What else need be done to play Blu-Ray on W8 Pro?
The related hardwares are Blu-Ray disk on Blu-Ray writer/player and HDCP compliant video card(HD5770) and moniter(Dell U2410).

I don't think win 8 supports bluray playback. I know win 7 does not. You need a 3rd party software like ASTMT or Power DVD 12 etc.

Its kinda unbelievable win7 had no native support, let alone win8. Since most computers come with a BR reader nowadays. I guess MS did not want to pay royalties for the playback ability.

That is why i love MKVs copys. They will play on any computer on my network for free.

Unlike WMC for W7, WMC Add-On to W8 is reportedly capable to support BD playback. It is going to be a paid software after 2/1/2013.

Reports were false, MS has stated that the WMC add-on does not support Blu-ray playback

Thank you for correcting my misunderstanding.
I appreciate recommendation for the necessary software to play BD. Cyberlink, Arksoft, or any other?

DVDfab has a trial player also i have used and seemed to work fine. I have the DVDfab bluray package ripper, copy, 3d SBS mkv a very complete blu ray package that supports cuda acceleration and ATIs implementation. It takes my i7 2600k system around 35 min@ 90%-100% cpu usage of all 8 threads to make a 20gb SBS MKV from a 45gb plus 3d blu ray copy of John Carter. It allows you to adjust the bitrate of the copy, so i allway make it pretty dang hi for picture quality

I have tried them all but not enough to tell you which one you should pay for.

Arcsoft total media theater seemed like the most complete one....but i tried it just this month on my bedrooms i3 2120 HTPC with a h67 chipset and a 7750 card. soon after install it was giving me a blank screen problem. Not during use. Soon after i installed it My screen would just go blank and a reboot would not fix it. I had to boot into safemode and get rid of it. Was probably a driver problem but i really am not positive what caused it besides the program itself.

I reviewed DVDfab website but the system requirements does not include W8. Are you using it on W8?
