Question about ModernUI and 2008 R2

Hi

I just want to confirm that ModernUI is when windows boots up and on the desktop there are pictures of bunch titles, right?

Also what does R2 means in windows server 2008 R2?

Yes, when windows 8 boots up, it goes to the "start screen" which looks like a bunch of tiles with pictures and names of programs similar to what the start menu was. I think the R2 stands for "second release" or something to the effect of update number 2.

Edit: err Yes the start screen is using the ModernUI that comes with windows 8.

ModernUI is the new style GUI where apps are launched from the new Start screen with Live Tiles, and the apps function in full screen mode and integrate with the new UI elements such as charms and the bottom-flick/right-click menus. It is not just the new Start screen.

R2 can be considered "Release 2". Windows Server 2008 is basically the server version of Vista, while 2008 R2 is the server version of Windows 7.
