So I have a curious question, how do you run Defrag on mechanical internal/external HDDs when you have Windows 7 and a SSD?

I tried to run defrag on a HDD the other day and I was unable to launch the defrag app. I know Windows 7 disables it for SSDs. (I might be completely wrong on this too)

It just stops the defrag on the SSDs. It should still defrag the mechanical drives as normal through the task scheduler - no user intervention is required.

Use the command line tool. The command is defrag.

Not sure why the GUI Defrag won't pop up. It should.

Alternate route

Click on the drive
Right mouse properties
tab tools

Select the drives you want to defrag...be sure not to select your ssd...it can definitely degrade performance.
