Can Windows be installed without WMP getting thrown in too? If it can't , what would be the procedure to cut it out without too much blood or worst case scenario, disable it? (FYI I use Divx for my vids and winamp for music.) thanks for any help.
You want to select the "Turn Windows Features on or off" under Programs and Features. Windows media player is under there. You can use Group Policy to lock down the user account if you're trying to prevent a certain user from having access to media player.

Not sure if it can be removed in a standard install but if you have MSDN or a friend in Europe you can get the "N" edition in which WMP is physically not present for regulatory reasons; evidently their antitrust courts have teeth. It might be possible to get MS support to turn a standard license into a N version but I've never tried that.
It can be removed in a standard install, but IIRC not at install time.
As for the N edition, that whole deal that the EU did just felt like a silly money grab by the EU and rather not something I would have my country put their membership towards. Same with the installed browser thing. What are people, imbeciles that cant download a browser of choice without having the choice force-fed to them.
