new, prettier apt-get?

Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:11 pm

Has anyone else noticed a new format for apt-get? It now runs 2 concurrent downloads, and shows the total progress on the left instead of the right. I like the changes alot.

I have not noticed any changes recently. It has shown total progress on the left for a while...

Of course, Ubuntu custom patches their apt, so they may have changed the way it looks, but I'm running Debian testing/unstable. Which Ubuntu are you running and what version of apt do you show? Mine's 0.7.3.

I always thought it ran 2 concurrent downloads, however, the change of the progress I'll have to look at next time I need to get a package.

7.04 As to what version of apt, I don't know how to check. You are right about the total progress though.

The cool thing is that once one of those files finishes, the next one in the queue shows up in it's place.

Ah, I see what you're talking about with the multiple simultaneous downloads. It's downloading concurrently from separate mirrors. It's done that for quite a while, too.

For future reference:
$ apt-get --version

or

$ dpkg -l apt

*shrug* I guess I've never noticed it before. Oh well. :-)
Thanks for the commands, I should have thought of that first one. 0.6.46.4ubuntu10 is what it says.

I /think/ that apt-get's had that capability for a while. At any rate, I remember Debian's version (in testing) having it before I switched to Ubuntu in June last year.
