Standby?

Sat Feb 08, 2003 10:28 am

Anyone know how I can put my system into Standby (ACPI state S3) from Linux? I'm running RedHat 8.0. My mobo supports STR so standby turns all the fans and power-consumption and things off, so in Win2K I hardly ever bother shutting down, I just hit the sleep button on my keyboard (which is another question). Just something like a shell command would do.

Does the Linux kernel actually support ACPI? I just find it weird I haven't been able to find any reference to power management in, e.g., the man page for shutdown.

I dont have the answer to your specific question but when I looked into ACPI a while back, I gathered that ACPI support needs to be compiled into the kernel (or a separate driver)

All I wanted was a quick way to put my monitor into sleep mode and that was accomplished using 'xset dpms force standby'. xset probably wont be useful to you since DPMS is for power 'management of monitors only (I thnk)

However, I did stumble onto these links which may be of help to you...

Let us know how things go. Good luck
