Linux Drivers for Hercules Game Theater XP?

Sat Feb 15, 2003 12:14 am

I just installed Red Hat 8 on my box, and was wondering if anyone knew a source for linux drivers for the Hercules Game Theater XP? I would really appreciate any help. Thank you in advance!

They're available in the kernel.

Watch for CrystalSoundFusion CS4264 or similar. I know it's in there, I had my GTXP working in kernel 2.4.8 or so.

Yes, but there is something "up" with them. The volume is very low, and sound only comes from one speaker. When I boot into Windows, the sound is at a normal level, from all 4 speakers.

You'll need a newer kernel, then. There was a problem with the amplifier initialization code. I could swear that was a REALLY old issue, but RH does maintain their kernel fork a little oddly at times.

The ONLY GTXP drivers are in the kernel itself (OSS/free), a pay-for-service (OSS/commercial), and in ALSA (pretty large PITA to DL/install, for a non-guru).

If you can't upgrade your kernel, you'll be out of luck for now, unless you feel like trying ALSA.

Forge,
Well, I took a look at Alsa. I think it's just too much for a linux n00b. I am just playing right now... gonna be getting into my red hat bible soon, so after that, I'm sure I'll have a much better understanding of things. Thanks a ton for your reply, man. Really appreciate it.
