Recommend me an distribution that have no problems with the new chipsets from Intel, and recognize an sata DVD.
And have no problem with 8800GT (or GTS) like I read in the 8.04 Ubuntu forums.

I'm running Fedora Core 8 on a P35 Intel mobo - installed with SATA DVD drive and using an 8600GT dual-head. No problems with it at all (and I'm pretty much a Linux noob).

Have you tried Ubuntu for yourself to see if you actually run into problems (rather than just reading the forums)?

For reference, I had problems with a 9600GT, and did not post them in the Ubuntu forums. I wasn't interested in working through the problems any more after an hour, and the computer doesn't need Linux on it anyway.

I'm running Kubuntu 8.04 on an E8400/IP35 Pro combo with 8GB of RAM, an 8800GTS, and a Samsung SATA DVD burner plus three other SATA hard drives. Works just fine. There is an issue related to the two SATA channels on the IP35 Pro that are connected through a bridge chip to the IDE controller. However there are reasonably easy work arounds, especially if you are starting with a clean system. I took the route of just turning the off since I didn't need them.
