Moniter acting funky in 9.10

Wed Feb 24, 2010 10:42 pm

okay I just started using Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop (Phenom 2 965 @3.8, 3870) and it works fine, except the monitor doesn't completely fill.
There's maybe an inch in every direction of black, and instead of 1920 x 1080 (which i can get in windows 7), I us some strange res, like 1776 x 1000. Any ideas?
monitor is an Acer H233H on HDMI. Some games ( COD 5 & 6 and GTA IV ) give me this problem in windows 7 also.

Are you using the official "restricted" Radeon video driver? Tried going to System->Preferences->Display & telling it to use the correct resolution?

yup and yup, it can do 1920 x 1080, but everything looks out of focus and blurry.

Can you try with a DVI or VGA cable, to see if the issue is specific to the HDMI port?
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
