I know there are tons of free Linux games out there, a few of which are pretty darn good. But what about games that aren't free?

What non-free games are available for Linux right now that are good?

The best that I know of is Heroes of Newerth, which has native versions for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Awesome game, by the way.

If you don't know of any, what about the best of the free games?

Any genre, but preferably something that at least feels like it was made this century.

A while ago there was a promotion on where you could download a collection of games for what you thought they were worth, I think it was called "The Honest Bundle". I did that and the games were:

Gish
Lugaru
Penumbra
Samorost 2
World Of Goo

Even though this thread is 2 years old, it is the only existing thread that deals with Linux Games.

So, if ya'll don't mind, I'd like to revisit this. Has there been any new games in the past 2 years worthy of mention?

I played Oil Rush and it's definitely worth the 19.99 they are charging. The graphics can bring even my 460 to it's knees.

Just been playing around with Project Zombiod. Looks like it'll be a laugh when it's finished.

the upcoming Nexuiz game looks pretty good. so does UrbanTerror HD that's currently under development.

I found this site a few days ago when I was looking for games to put on my newly assembled spare-parts rig.

It seems that most great games are Windows games that had Linux executables released later on. Neverwinter Nights is one example. I think UT2k4 had Linux binary?

They still have problems with installers and such. So you basically have to use Wine to install them first. And GOG version is also Windows exclusive...

To piggy back on this, can anyone help me out.

I took my kids to McDonalds (I know, I know) and in this location, the play area had two table top CRT touch screen system.
One was working, and one was stuck in a boot loop, so I saw that it was booting linux.

The other one was fully booted, and came up to a touch menu with a lot of touch screen kids games.
My kinds fell in love with this snow man game.

Trying to find any info I can to duplicate this at home. (already have a old Elo touchscreen)
It doesn't have to be exact, but anyone have a idea front end I could run, or seen one of these running?

Both, but can live with either for now.
Touchscreens are pretty cheap, but its the nice front end that auto loads to a game menu that I like.

My son loved that snow man game. I am betting it is not free, but I am hoping to find something similar.

doudou linux has a simple graphical frontend and is intended for kids. i'm not sure how old your son is so he may think its childish.

also i think the MythTV and XBMC frontends can be set up with links to games, etc.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has a port for Debian based systems. They have ASCII and Tiles versions.

Trine and Trine 2 (which just came out with a beta Linux client) are 2 fun games with excellent graphics that have Linux clients. The constant parade of Humble Bundle offerings that include cross-platform games are a good way to be introduced to some games you can play on Linux.

You are talking about the Humble Bundle which can be found http://www.humblebundle.com/

They provide games for multiple platforms and let you pay what you want. Mac, Windows, Linux and now Android. It's well worth checking out when they have one of their bundles on sale.

Battle for Wesnoth is an epic game. Really.

Also you should download Desura, it's a digital game distro client with a good handfull of Linux games, paid and free.
