Wheezy /is/ the current version in Testing; as such the two are equivalent until Wheezy becomes stable.

I've considered returning to Debian, believe me.

You're right it is, but using "wheezy" as the apt repo instead of "testing" made a difference for me. There was a Debian document that talks about the difference, but I can't find it at the moment.

Unity is the sole reason why I abandoned Ubuntu.

At least the data is stored in individual per-application XML files instead of binary blobs.

With no gotchas of null terminated and null-nonterminated strings, and awful API, ahhh, the Windows registry nostalgia

If you were otherwise happy with Ubuntu, this seems like a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water. Why not just switch to Kubuntu/Xubuntu?

OTOH if you were thinking of switching distros anyway, Unity was probably as good an excuse as any.

IIRC, he wanted Cinnamon instead of GNOME 2, so he switched to Mint, and didn't really throw out the baby.

I tried Kubuntu and Xubuntu, and I never really got used to either of them. Kubuntu is a bit too gadgety for me, and single click/property pages seem to be unusual. Xubuntu was way too simplistic for my liking.

Also, I somehow feel safer with distro that's built from the ground up with a desktop environment integrated. And Mint surprised me very positively.

FWIW there's an option to turn off the single-click behavior in KDE/Kubuntu and make the left mouse button behave more like it does in GNOME and Windows (i.e. double-click to open).

Yeah I've always liked Apple's design aesthetic, but I have always hated the deal you had to make with them to get it. So wallpaper and icons deliver a pretty close likeness, while I still have the freedom of Linux... can't complain.
