Postposted on Thu Aug 07, 2014 2:07 am

Dear ubuntu linux c++ programer/expert:

I tried to copy/test first graph c++ on big c++ , first edition, but I got error:

Unable to initialize font: -adobe-courier-bold-r-normal-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-

on first edition of big c++, page 92, point.cpp
on my ubuntu linux 13.10(server edition) upgrade to 14.04
gcc 4.8.2

but, it work at my laptop installed 10.04(desktop edition) and keep updated it from 2010, so it apparent not software/program of c++ have problem, but ubuntu/linux 14.04
(server edition) have problem.

plz help, thanks a lot in advance, Eric

If you never installed a desktop environment, the fonts probably aren't there. You need to figure out which package contains the font you're looking for, and install it. Alternatively (if you've got the disk space) you could just install one of the desktop environments.
(this space intentionally left blank)
just brew it!

On the machine where you have the font installed, find the file for that font (probably in a sub directory of /usr/share/fonts ) and use dpkg -S filename to find the package it belongs to.

thanks both reply.
in my /usr/share/fonts/X11/encodings/
I found 3 file related to adobe

adobe-dingbats.enc.gz
adobe-standard.enc.gz
adobe-symbol.enc.gz

------

I also do
dpkg -S adobe-standard
---(I get)---
xfonts-encodings: /usr/share/fonts/X11/encodings/adobe-standard.enc.gz

then I tried
apt-get install adobe-standard
or
apt-get install adobe
(unable to locate package)

both not work, so please help again, thanks a lot in advance, eric
