Just a question, but what's the long term effect of running your processors at max for an extended period of time. Say for folding or something?

Will this continued usage shorten the lifespan of the processors?

Hmm, I'm not sure. I for one have never seen a CPU just "die" on its own without some external cause. As long as proper attention is given to cooling, a CPU should last years if not decades no matter how hard it's used. (Speaking of cooling, I'm gonna have to get something else for my XP. The AMD 'sink isn't cutting it at all. )

Based on the growth stats, even without an increase in CPUs crunching, we should be hitting #11 by late August. (#10 if you don't count anonymous). Pretty impressive.

I think the PCs will probably be replaced long before there's any chance of the CPU dying of being worked too much.

And to what Steel said, I think the slipping of users may at least partially be attributed to the fact that the school year ended (at least, the college school year). I know I had mine going, being I lived on campus with free power and T3 and all. But now, I live in an apartment, and kinda refrain from keeping my box on all the time.

Though getting the P3 933s at work going is sure boosting me up there
