Just to let you guys know, I just did a processor step up. I'm no longer contributing with a 2GHz 754 1MB Athlon64 (Though it will rejoin sooner or later). I'm currently running two copies of FOH on my 2.6GHz Athlon64 X2 5000+ AM2.

WOW, has it really been since 2002 since I last did any folding? Once upon a time I was as high as #8 on Team TR.

Anyway, not to long ago I bought a X1900XTX and have now put it into service to try out the GPU code. We'll see if I can get my rank back up a bit.

Thank you, thank you! I'm 75% towards completing my first WU now (hey it's a lot of work!) and have my Turion 64 ML-34 laptop going full bore at least 12 hours a day on it!

Welcome back. :)

If you can manage to do it, you'll get much higher points if you run the Linux SMP client. I'm running it on a Windows box by using VMware server software to allow Ubuntu 64 bit Linux to run on a virtualized machine. It moved my PPD from under 1000 (and at present I think it would be under 600 with the crappy WUs Stanford has been giving us in recent weeks) to over 1300 just by that change. It does eat a fair amount of RAM, though, and you have to get the WUs finished in a 2-4 days depending on the WU, but when I started running the Linux SMP client I only ran it during non-working hours and was still easily able to complete the WUs on time. This was running on an Opteron @ 2.58 GHz.

I've finally got a 4th and 5th box up and folding....

So far I've got an A64 3800+ X2, A64 3000+, AXP 3000+, AXP 2500+ and a dual PIII 1GHz folding away.

I've got a couple more that are too unstable so far to use due to lack of good parts, since most of the boxes are made of hand-me-down parts. But I'll find the right combination to whip them into shape....

Either way, KUB (electric utility) loves me.....

Well, you can count me back. I am not using the smp client right now, but I am using 2 windows clients (I just don't want hassle with the smp client).

I removed your name from the UGN Cencus but you are always welcome to come back. :D

I suggest making a new list, with people no longer folding for UGN into the alumni section :) UGN seems to be a pit where big folders join only to disappear tho...guess no one is really keeping track of their progress being in the collective.

Hey! UGN is no stinking pit! We do what we can to help those less enabled to experiece the big point rush. :D

In about an hour I will be uploading a 500 point WU for UGN. Initially I will be a part-time citizen sending every other WU from one of my fastest (underclocked & undervolted) 24/7 single core systems. When I'm able to build and debug my dungeon rack and/or with the return of cold weather my contribution will be at least one full-time system.
Thanks again, jeffry55!

You really don't want me to open that can of worms! I'll just say, In the nearly thirty years I was gone I don't ever recall being homesick, even once. I'm here for only one reason .. there's no one else to do the job.

My daughter's upgrade is on it's fourth UGN WU. It's currently the fastest cpu in the house. An s754 3200 at stock 2.2GHz speed. The MSI nForce3 250 mobo has lots of options for overclocking and overvolting, but no options to make it slower and cooler, oh well.

I hope you're having a great time on vacation.

edit: From my 31 July 2007 post in the UGN rise to the Top thread:
"I removed my daughter's upgrade parts (which were folding 50/50 for UGN) from the workbench to make room for my x2 4000 SMP effort. Sooo, I switched my chilled 24/7 Sempron 2400 to UGN full time and cranked it back up to stock speed. It's currently finishing it's second UGN big packets WU at ~170 PPD. I will do my best to keep it doing big packets and when chilly weather returns I'll crank it back up to 2.0GHz."

The WU server continues to smile on the Little Socket A Sempron That Could and today, 07 August 2007, at 5:05 PM EDT it will finish it's fourth 574 point WU for UGN.

I updated the front page information to reference installation guides for the SMP and Console clients.

Our number of active processors is up to 23 (7 days) and 43 (50 days). Keeps those wheels spinning! :D

Greetings Gerbils! I would like everyone who is contriibuting to UGN to make a post with the type of CPUs, number and type of folding clients and percent dedicated to folding. Here's mine:

Q6600 running Ubuntu X64 with 1 SMP client and 1 Console client - 100% folding

Q6600 running Windows XP with 1 SMP client and 1GPU client on X1950 - 100% folding

Q6600 running Windows Vista X64 with 1 SMP client - 100% folding with reduced production during game play :D

S939 X2 3800+ @2.4GHz running diskless SMP with VMware - a bit less than 100% because I have another VM running Win2K server with TFTP for the Folding VM.

I may want to send the mobo back for RMA so it may be offline soon. :(
