You Gerbils better pick up the pace otherwise I will overtake you in 2.5 years. Run Gerbils Run.

I don't know that you are really overtaking us, we're just getting back to normal after I upgraded. In addition, I've got an 8800GTS(G92) sitting in my drawer that is good for 5,000PPD minimum (It's OC'd to 745MHZ and shaders are locked). The problem is that I don't have a computer to put it in. I could put it in my wife's PC, but I already have a 9800GTX+ in her PC, plus the GTX295 and GTX280 in my PC, all venting lots of heat into the one room (our PCs are in our office next to each other). Seems silly to have to use AC to cool off a room being heated by videocards.

So anyhoo, what did you do to your farm? Got pics?

Yah, we're pretty much even right now. With that much horsepower, I'm surprised you aren't on your own userid.

The Linux SMP client seems to have stabilized a bit, so I fired up a few more quads that I have available to see how high I can go. I'm starting to max out though... I'll have a real problem going much past 110K PPD.

Send me your spare cards and I'll put them to use... for UGN of course! :-P

Actually this is tempting. If I sent you a card, and you were willing to put the card I sent, plus a similar card of your own towards UGN, I think I would take you up on the offer. :)

The caveat being that if in the future you decide to stop folding you send the card back to me...

How much are you willing to sell the card for? It's probably better for your situation (though, didn't you have machines folding in a garage or some such thing?) to sell it and replace something you have now with something more powerful, such as replacing that 9800GTX+.

BTW, the room AC here has been running for the entire month already. :D

The 9800GTX+ is a pretty good folder, and probably about the best bang for the buck folding wise. That's its only purpose in life, folding, so no need to worry about gaming or anything. Oh, Jeffry has his machines in the garage.

Changing topics, I fired up the CPU client on my i7. It is at 340PPD. Yay... For some reason it is not engaging the SMP WUs. I tried adding -smp in the config line, but so far can't get it to run with that command in for some reason...

Jeffry, I think we need to take over this thread from fuzzface and fizzlebywire. They're never gonna catch us. Instead, I propose we throw the gauntlet down on all comers (which for now is only pinhead) and proclaim the mighty mighty UGN as the rightful heir to the top spot for team 2630, that is to say, WE SHALL BE THE FIRST TO OVERTAKE SEGFAULT7. 8) 8) 8) 8)

UGN is my primary motivator in buying more pc hardware.

Damn lack of room... and having to pay tuition.

Only temporarily, Obama plans to annex all of Canada, (except Quebec) in a few years to help cover the budget deficit.

Hah. It appears the two original gauntlet throwers have decided to take out each other since UGN proved to be far, far out of their reach. Fuzzface just passed flybynight... http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... ?s=&t=2630

I suspect effbeedub has a rabbit he's getting ready to pull out of his hat though... we shall see.

"Oh how the mighty have fallen"

I know how you gerbils feel. My bill for electrons was $425! Florida is a hot place in the summer.
So Fuzzhead shutdown 2/3 of the fleet.
Back this winter with a bigger fleet.

ps Where is Flybywire???

Thanks JPinTO!

I shall enjoy while I can.

The Rodents must be down for the count. The head Rodent is giving away his folding boxes.

Corporal Rodent keeps killing his video cards.

Thanks, Fuzzhead! The dust has finally settled after six months of home renovation so now I can turn a few machines back on. In addition, I've managed to get my hands on a Mac Pro and a Dell PE R710, both fitted with dual quads. 8) I'm running Xubuntu on the R710 and have been unsuccessful in enabling HT.. any ideas?

Not sure what you mean by HT Hyperthreading? I was folding with all 8 cores and getting
10,000 ppd. Lately it only wants to run with 4 cores. Still get 7 t0 8k ppd cpu and 8k ppd on the the GPU.
SO about 16k ppd with this box. Another GPU and 24k ppd.

This link is what I use to set up the core 920 with ubuntu. xubuntu should be close to the same,
I started with xubuntu but have been using ubuntu recently.
Its folding on the CPU and GPU. I have a NV275 in it and will get another NV275 tomorrow.
So I can game and fold. dual boot Win 7 and Ubuntu 9.04. Ubuntu 9.10 may have issues with GPUsand Wine,
so I have not tried yet.

Good Luck,

This is a bit late but I missed the numbers the first time through.

10K points from a CPU? I thought quad cores were getting 3K points a day, and i7's were getting 5K.

What CPU do you have in that 16K ppd system?

It is a core i7 overclocked to 3.8GHz. Today it is getting 9068ppd on a smp 2677 unit.
GPU is 8024ppd on 548 point unit. Running Ubuntu 9.04 with hyperthreading on 6 gigs mem 7,7,7,20.

If you've got i7 920 with 6Gb RAM, you should be running with -BIGADV units for 20k+PPD, no?

You have to do this with a non virtual UNIX OS tho right?

If I could run it in Windows I'd be all over it.
