"Windows Vista Business 32bit" $10

I just want to clarify that my X2 machine with 2 8800GT's are just using 1 core for both GPU2 clients under WinXP. I don't have them spread over both cores. ATM the other core is 100% running the single CPU client. Putting Vista on there would probably bring my CPU usage down from 100% on 1 core to maybe 20-30% on that 1 core? IDK

Golly, for that kind of money, I'd splurge and pay $30 for Vista Ultimate.

That's odd, your 2 GPUs on 1 core with XP thing. What kind of performance do they produce again?

It would be an interesting experiment to see what difference Vista makes, if any. You can obviously get an SMP client going, but I wonder how much that would reduce the GPUs output.

Despite XP showing Nvidia GPU2 using at 100% of one core, that is mostly just filler. It is using way less. Running Linux SMP on VMware (gave up the buggy early beta 6.2x windows SMP) at low priority and GPU2 at high priority (normally I just leave it at below normal), the GPU2 client took 8% CPU use, and the PPD was unaffected.
Also on the support forums, someone is running 5 nvidia fast gpu2 clients on one core of a celeron e1400 (25K PPD!) using XP (skulltrail mobo). :o
As far as I can see, that is the best setup for most people with Windows (Linux SMP under VMware + GPU2 clients). Of course with VMware Linux SMP, need either a C2D with VT or any AMD dual core (2GHz with 2x512K L2 minimum suggested) and the system has to be on most of the time.

It's usually fairly stable as long as you run the Linux client. Just make sure the machine is completely up to full power use for weeks on end, because it will run the CPU and memory hard, and any failures that don't usually show up will often demonstrate themselves with the SMP client.

Having to use a VM is a hackjob and a hit in performance department. Hence why I ask that they release a stable Windows SMP client.

It is a hackjob, but some points-freaks are willing to do some hacks to get there. It's no different from running the Windows single core client on WINE in the old days. As for performance, what performance hit? PPD is higher with the LinuxSMP client, and you can push the vmware-vmx.exe process down to low priority, which is equivalent to running WinSMP with their processes in low priority and will get nicely out of the way if necessary.

System performance. Especially due to the non-dynamic RAM allocation.

That's valid point. But I do need some memory hoggers to use up some (I have mine set to about 600 megs, still plenty left to do other stuff) of those 2 gigs of RAM that I have. :P

I ran out of RAM for the first time the other day when trying to do some video editing. I think it's because the version of Premiere Elements that I have really isn't suited for dealing with Vista.

Nope sorry. I was only kidding about the camera too. I had forgotten about one of my school loans I pulled out a few years ago

So we recently passed Team MacOS X in PPD but we are only ahead of them by ~18k PPD. That's like just two 9800GX2's worth in daily points (or a few Macs).
Alliance Francophone is ~100k PPD ahead of us.

My contribution:

Athlon64 X2 6000+ with 8800GT - currently only the 8800GT is folding.
Pentium M 1.73GHz
Pentium M 1.5GHz
Pentium 4 1.8GHz
Athlon64 3400+ (which will be upgraded to the GPU2 client as soon as I get the 8800GS) - I just added this one yesterday.

We need more folders, currently only 103 TR gerbils have average PPD above 1000. Rest 150 members are on & off folders. :(

We're down to just over 300 Active folders, again. On the upside, the average PPD is at an all-time high of over over 2100.
