Hello

Thu Oct 02, 2008 2:14 pm

Hey everyone, after owning my new computer for about a month and making sure everything is running perfectly, I have now downloaded the F@H client. I am running for the Tech Report team, as a sign of appreciation for the massive amount of support I received when asking about building my machine. My contribution will be a C2Q Q9450 processor, and an overclocked Radeon HD 4870 (running at 790/1100, stock is 750/900).
[email protected], P8P67 PRO, 8GiB [email protected], GTX 570, Xonar DX, Intel 510 120GB, Deskstar 7k3000 3TB, Corsair 600T, OCZ Fatal1ty 750W.

Didn't actually build it myself (wanted too though) But yes, this is the first system I've played an active part in configuring.

Evan, basically this little stunt we are doing is to make this username "TRFrankenbot" in team 2630 have a big point spike for the month of October. The thing with a big point spike is that, on EOC's stats, the name will be highlighted in red and the name will be listed in the top 20. So this makes TRFrankenbot (we tend to call it Frankie) "scary".

This is strictly voluntary though. If you choose to continue folding under your name or any other name, it is ok (preferably still under team 2630 of course).
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

I'd say it's more the former than the latter. A good guy in my book.

Great to have another folder! I'm very interested to hear what kind of PPD your 4870 is pulling.

The cpu and gpu together are getting about 2200 ppd, with intermittent games throughout the day. I'd proably get about 2.5k with no games.

Which CPU client are you using? This seems a little low even with games.

Evan, be sure to use the -smp flag with your CPU client.

And if anyone wants, I can post the excel file that does the extraction and stuff. Gotta love Excel's ability to extract data from web pages.

eh, the SMP client seems to have a really strange install, and there a few steps I can't do (can't make a password, it my parents computer) I'll just wait for the SMP client to become available to windows proper.

Have your parents make a password and then set it to automatically log in.

I'd rather just wait until it's fully supported

Well that's fine too. Although if they have an always-on internet connection, it certainly would make things more secure.

If you really can't run the SMP client, I would suggest you run at least 2 instances of the single core one.

that I can do, should I set the affinity seperate (so each gets two cores) or just let them go as normal?

I would just let them go normal. And btw, single core client only uses one core. So with the GPU client and 2x single core clients you should see 3 cores used (or 75% if you look at Task Manager). We will think about the third single core client once you set the 2nd one up. ;)

so then, your saying it may be best to set up 3 single cores and 1 gpu ,and set each to one core?

OS scheduling should take care of the core assignments. I would not touch affinity unless I have to. Are you now at 50% (Task Manager) meaning only 2 cores are used?

it fluxuates constantly (30% to 70%), and all cores are used, but yeah, each is at about 50%

alright, it's done, I've just finished configuring 2 extra CPU clients. System is at constant 100% load. Only problem is that whenever I play any newer game (especially those without hardware acceleration) I need to turn off 2 of the 3 CPU clients, and the GPU client too if it's a new game.

OK, the 2 new cpu clients have been running for a while now, and my ideal ppd has gone from about 2300 to 3000
