484 points on E8400 (SMP 2) in 18 hrs - Expected?

Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:46 pm

Ok gerbils, I hope that subject helps explain what am facing.

I am using the SMP client on the FAH GPU Tracker v2 to track folding and have received Project 7200 (484 points) (thrice now). In the tracker, the PPD shows me a range between 1800-2500, but the actual work unit takes around 18 hrs to complete. Based on that, doesn't seem like am anywhere close to 2000 ppd. I've even stopped the GPU client for a few days now, as it was slowing down the CPU work unit even further.

I have an E8400 (till Ivy Bridge is out) and the rest of my system specs are in my signature.

Questions
1. First, am I looking at this right, or am I totally miscalculating ppd?
2. Is the performance too low for this processor. I have seen higher numbers quoted.
3. If yes and yes, what am I doing wrong.

Not that the actual numbers matter, but it would help to know whether my system is being utilized well.

Points is the intrinsic points value of the WU, excluding early return bonus. PPD projections include early return bonus, so that number should be higher if you can consistently finish WUs.

Using passkey?

Need to finish 10 units and then you will start to get quick return bonus.
Need to maintain 80% completion ratio.

So did you check your actual points to see if you are actually getting closer to 2000 ppd or more like 700 for those WUs? That should tell you if you are getting the early return bonus.

Yes, I'm using the passkey. Also, I have just started (actually re-started) folding. Am on my 4th SMP work unit. Based on both your notes, I could wait for a week and post an update, once am done with 10 WUs.

Am looking at my stats here [EOC]. The hourly figures are consistent with what's displayed in the FAH Tracker. The 1000+ points/day entries was for the GPU client (which I've currently stopped).

Well, prepare to see a spike once your 10th WU is done. ;)

Thank you, Flying Fox and mdk77777. I completed my 10th WU and now each WU nets me about 1,300 - 1,700 points.
