just brew it! wrote:Sad if that happens. I'm not a big-time folder any more, so I'm no longer willing to buy dedicated hardware; furthermore, given that I don't game any more either, I don't have another excuse to buy high-end GPUs. Ahh well, I've pretty much only been running it as a burn-in test for new systems, and for the annual TRFrankenbot effort anyway.
Probably should take myself off the mod list for the DC forum, as I haven't been following the Folding scene closely for a few years now.

LoneWolf15 wrote:...Other people have asked me why I don't just mine for Bitcoins. The answer is because I didn't want to do something that was about me, but something that did something for somebody else. It will probably be a long time before it has tangible results, but if it does, I can be happy that my hardware did something for other people.
BIF wrote:I think Pande Group is on a path to eliminate A4 and therefore all CPU folding. Evidenced by the recent ending of Bigadv and elimination of A4 bonus, plus I really haven't seen a lot of new development in the A4 realm, have you?
I think the next step is likely the removal of A4 QRB. Without that, I'd probably bring in less than 2K points per day with my CPU; hardly worth the effort and heat generation.
The Folding forums themselves are helpful; I got relatively quick responses to questions I had. However, I never saw a ton of news.
BIF wrote:So I seem to remember that x15 work units aren't long for this world. But I can't find that article anymore (or anything saying that x15s are approaching end of life). Could it be that I have been sent to folding purgatory and only imagined the end of life news article to make myself feel better?

At this point, I just want to hear that Core 18 is back for Maxwell.
Kougar wrote:I really hope folders won't have to mess with "beta" or "advanced" flags to get the new and improved GPU core projects.
Also, I'm surprised they haven't been using AVX as they are very late to the party on that. On the flipside, people's CPU overclock stability is going to be tested now
