SONY BDP S360 Tweaks.

Sun Feb 21, 2010 7:46 pm

what are these features for?

FNR, BNR AND MNR.

I set them as 'off'.

Is it okay to set the output for the picture as 1080p or should I set everything to auto?

Just to maximize clarity in picture as well as the surround sound.

any opinions?

They are all basically for Noise reduction. Seeing that i found the answer to it in the manual for the player, maybe you can take a look at that too for more detail :P

As for the 1080p thing, if you are outputting the blu-ray signal to a HDTV that is capable of 1080p, then select that function. Generally, the "Auto" mode will pick it for you anyway.

Frame Noise Reduction: Set to reduce fine noise.

Block Noise Reduction: Set to reduce mosaic-like block noise displayed on the screen

Mosquito Noise Reduction

My Google-fu fails to provide a good resource to explain and show what FNR and BNR do outside of what the PS3 manual states. The MNR link on the other hand is excellent.

Generally speaking these features should be cut off. They would only help with poorly encoded DVDs and the tradeoff for using any of them would be loss of fine detail in a source that's already pretty crappy if you need these.
