Olympics

Wed Feb 24, 2010 8:33 pm

Anyone been watching?

As a Canadian, I'm watching the Canada Russia Game right now (4-1 Canada) and at the edge of my seat. This is good hockey. I hope we get a re-match against the States'.

I've been watching both the Men and Women's Canadian Hockey religiously. Nothing else, cause I don't care about anything else :D

Oh, and 7-3. I don't think anybody would have guessed this score after 2.

Surely then you have been seeing the "OLYMPICS" sign about the place too...
Girl's figure skating was good yesterday...Mao Asada from Japan came in 2nd and looks a good chance for the Silver or Gold medal tomorrow.
Great stuff.

That track is too fast and Canada's attempt to win medals by restricting practice access to the bare minimum called for in the rules has already killed a man.

While restricting to bare minimum isn't very nice, do keep in mind that this has been done by the previous hosts as well.

For example, the Canadians got 15 runs instead of 35 in Turin. At least we met the minimums.

Yes the track is fast, but most of the other teams say that the track in Germany is faster & more dangerous.

The decision to restrict practice runs was made by the Olympic committee, not just Canada. The training sessions were also kept to a minimum because of the weather. Warm weather makes the track more dangerous.

I don't understand your comment about now restricting training runs was Canada's attempt to win medals. Do you really think that?

Doesn't matter if I do, as lugers do so believe:

Reading that article, it seems that what we did was no different than what other countries do. It has most likely been more of an issue because of the Georgians death.

According to people who know much more about it than I do, that man's inexperience played just as large a hand in his death as track availability did. If anything, the design of the track seems like a bigger problem. If those cement posts had been padded, or the wall extended up to cover them he likely would have broken a few bones at worst.

And I don't like figure skating but what Joannie Rochette did the other night was damn impressive.

Well it's the big game tonight! Votes on winner? I'm hoping for the home-town boys but it's going to be tight!

No pressure, but if Canada takes it there will be a new record for Olympic winter gold by a single country.

as an american, im quite jealous that my country doesnt like hockey as much. football is cool and everything, but hockey is fun to watch as well. we have such an odd culture. i remember i used to get made fun of for playing soccer. im not too bent out of shape, its just a social quirk that makes me a sad panda.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLD!!

I didn't post it on here, so it's hard for me to back it up, but after the loss to the US in the first game, I said Canada would win by 1 in the gold medal. The parallels were too close to the World Junior championship in which America won (For those that didn't watch, Canada beat America in the prelims and USA came back to win it by 1 in the gold medal final).

I find it unique the results for hockey

Men Women
1) Canada 1) Canada
2) USA 2) USA
3) Finland 3) Finland

What are the odds of that?

Oh, and I want to say a HUGE congrats to the American hockey team (both males and females). Both teams were absolutely stunning in their run and both gold metal games were incredible to watch.

Russia? nah, forget them. They're so 70's/80's. Welcome team USA, to the top.

yeah, hockey results are pretty awesome.

also, CANADA HAS 14 GOLD MEDALS! both hockey golds! 4 of the speed skating events! we win in everything that actually matters. =P

shame the women's curling and team pursuit didn't get golds either... both of them favoured to win and just fall short. oh well.

That whole part was just to make fun of ourselves & the stereotypical way Canadians are viewed.

I found it quite funny.

Michael J. Fox talking about back bacon was a bit too much. I would have understood Bob or Doug, but not MJ Fox.

Shatner's line about Canadians with 4 beers in them being able to pronounce Straits of Juan de Fuca without getting censored was classic.
