Seems as though they are charging for a dead battery replacement for the iPad. I have a feeling that this charge is during the warranty period.

If it is, it'll be the only Apple product that doesn't cover the battery for (at least) 300 charge cycles. I'm pretty sure I saw that the iPad was covered for 1000, though.

It'll do fine. Won't be as popular as the ipod or iphone but they have wracked up a ton of good will by creating good products recently. People will forgive the shortcomings. If their next product release doesn't stun then I think people will begin to jump off of the Apple ship.
