Torchlight for $5

Thu Mar 25, 2010 9:19 pm

http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500/

Torchlight is on sale through Steam for just $5 (75% off).

This is the closest you're going to get to an updated Diablo. We've discussed the game here:

Sweet! This game was a lot of fun, although much of the addiction comes from gear scrounging :p

@Jedidiah: The game has a 'netbook' mode for playing on low power CPUs and GPUs. Haven't tried that mode out myself, though.

Bought. Can't go far wrong for $5.

Mind, even $7.50 was pretty far wrong for GTA4, but everything's got outliers.

Isn't this the same price as the Christmas sale?

After the Christmas sale it's hard for Steam to outdo itself with sales.

Yes it's been $5 before. Fun game for messing around, not a whole lot of replay value but this type of game is all about dungeon crawling and loot gathering anyway. There are a lot of mods from Even if you only play through it once, for $5 it's a worthwhile purchase if you like simpleminded dungeon crawling.

It plays completely fluidly at 1920x1200 on my Radeon HD4200 (AMD 785G chipset) integrated graphics.

I suspect he meant real IGP, i.e. Intel.

I actually like the replay because the Shadow Vault (only available after you beat the game once) is more balanced and challenging than the main dungeons (which don't auto-scale to your level).

It plays just fine on Intel's graphics. Heck the X3100 in my laptop was able to play it out of the "netbook" mode decently and completely fluid on netbook mode.

Personally I agree with the lack-of-replay-value sentiment. I thought that the main quest was well paced, even if it did drag its feet a little bit by the end. Once I had finished the main quest, I had awesome equipment, so I didn't really feel like there was much else to do.

Once you have weapons that heal you as fast as the enemies can damage you, you're pretty well set.
