Mon Apr 08, 2002 9:18 am

some of you may have already read this but heres a taster for you people who aint read the specs for nvidias next monster!! NV30 here i come!!

AGP 4x and 8x
Copper Core GPU Processor 0.13 m default clock 450 MHz
73 million transistors
8 pipes
128 MB DDR-SDRAM @ 375 MHz x2 = 750Mhz and 256 bit yes 256 bit
370Mhz RAMDAC
Direct X 9.X compatible
Quad Vertex Shaders
Dual Pixel Shaders
85 bone capable
Lightspeed Memory Architecture III
Quad Cache memory caching subsystem
Dual Z-buffers for greater compression without losses
visibility subsystem
NvAuto advanced pre-charge
Advanced Hardware Anisotropic Filtering - A new 12nvx mode that delivers improved subpixel coverage ,texture placement and quality.
12nvx mode should deliver 80% better subpixel coverage and placement than previous modes
Hardware bumpmapping
4 Textures/Pixel in a single clock cycle "loop back" can also apply an additional 4 textures per rendering pass
A separate second copper processor running at 450Mhz an 0.13m as well - handle all T&L now called TT&L (True Time and lighting) and NVAutoShaper a new prechached and precacheable system
Programmers can also add shapes to be temporarily stored in precache to speed things up
Latest Open GL
Backward glide game capable thanks to NvBlur (Yes a new version of Glide!)
NView Multi-display Technology
Built in re-programmable DVD and TV decoder chip  :o :D :P

Where did you find these stats? According to a interview on V-extreme they will have 3Dfx technology on the NV30. Those stats don't list any

Erm... WOW! :-P
Only slight anomaly I can find is the RAMDAC speed, it seems a little low for the next gen chip...

However, I could be wrong,

Think it'll compete? I hope both aren't just hype (remember the bitboys?)

Based on those two sets of specs, I can't see the R300 being faster than the GF4... remember how the Radeon 8500 is supposed to be faster than the GF3 Ti500? And is it?

8 pipes

I just read in a review that nVidia wasn't sure if they were doing 4 or 8 pipelines on it yet.

128 MB DDR-SDRAM @ 375 MHz x2 = 750Mhz and 256 bit yes 256 bit

That sounds unbelievable. If it was 256-bit would they really need to release it at 750mhz? Especially considering ram prices....

A separate second copper processor running at 450Mhz an 0.13m as well - handle all T&L now called TT&L (True Time and lighting) and NVAutoShaper a new prechached and precacheable system

That doesn't make any sense -- if the first unit did not have to handle T&L then it would not be 79 million transistors or whatever, that's for sure. Even with the complexity you're hoping for.

Additionally, it's far too early to know -- if nVidia was completely done with their R&D already they'd release the card in 2 months, not 6 or 7. I think that's mostly wishful thinking.

Based on those two sets of specs, I can't see the R300 being faster than the GF4... remember how the Radeon 8500 is supposed to be faster than the GF3 Ti500? And is it?

It is on paper, at least. Carmack was a little dissappointed, according to his last plan update, to find out that the 8500 ran slower in the new doom game, on average, than the Geforce3 (non TI) did.
