It's back again! UltraSharp U2311H $239+tax

Thu Jun 10, 2010 6:04 pm

Re-edit. It's back again (9/24):
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2256731

Dell has the 23" UltraSharp U2311H on sale for $239 + tax with free shipping again.

The 21.5" UltraSharp U2211H is down to $209 + tax.

These 1920x1080p monitors have e-IPS LCD panels for much better image quality than you can get with the nasty TN LCD panels that are found in most monitors at this price point.

I just had my 2311H delivered yesterday, cost me $296 (AUD), down from $400 with a $50 off sale Dell was having and the coupon code "4MZR3KTJJRT0VS" for another 15% off.

I am really loving this monitor. However this is my first IPS panel so I don't know how good it is or anything. I upgraded from a 17" 5:4 LCD (TN panel) so it's kind of hard to make comparisons between the two they are so different.

You should see a huge angle difference along with color difference. Or atleast those are suppose to be the big points for IPS monitors.

There's an ICC profile for your monitor at TFT central.
Up loading the profile will make a nice difference to your color setup if its at stock values right now.

Thanks for that Fighterpilot. I downloaded it and followed the instructions on TFT central, however I don't know if it worked or not. I can't tell any difference.

Here is what I did, downloaded the ICC profile, copied it to "C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color\". Right click desktop go to Screen Resolution> Advanced Settings > Colour Management (tab) > Colour Management. Then I created a profile and used the custom ICC profile and set that profile as the default.

I am running Windows 7 Professional x64 with a Radeon 5870 btw.

Yup that's correct.Mine worked very noticeably regarding the greenish tint I was getting.
The first time I uploaded the new ICC profile it didn't seem to make much difference.
I then decided to upload the default profile then restarted the monitor/PC.
Then I uploaded the TFT central profile and the difference was quite a bit and fixed the tinting problem completely.
Just a tip...add an "X" to the end of the TFT ICC profile so its easy to see in the profiles list when you have to select it.

I enabled the default profile, restarted PC and monitor, then enabled the TFT Central one and restarted again. I still can't tell any difference. I just like having 23" of pixels, 17" was waaaaaay too small.

A friend of mine is planning to purchase a 24" non IPS panel in a month or so, so I'll have to get that and my 2311H side by side and see if I can tell the difference.

Perhaps your factory calibration was fairly accurate. The U2410 I have was known for looking a little limp with the stock calibration so that profile was made with a colorimeter to give it some bling.
If you can get hold of a colorimeter like Spyder Pro etc then apparently it makes a nice difference.
They seem to cost around $150 for anything decent so its a value call at that point.
Being able to recalibrate your panel regularly is of course sweet so to have one would be a nice luxury.
Could you borrow one...?
ps. You should set the onscreen menu setting to standard for the best all round color.

I tried to order this afternoon and the coupon did not work anymore. According to SD people called or used live chat to order and they still honoured it. I did that and I am having one on my way on or before the 1st. Get them while you can. :)

It is back again. The U2211 is on for $209 as well.

I got one at the beginning of the month and aside from some backlight bleeding, it looked pretty good.

This is a great price on a quality IPS LCD display.
