I just ordered a new system on Newegg and am unsure if I ordered a sufficiently powerful PSU. I assembled the system in my shopping cart a few months ago and decided to hold off on purchasing it until now. When I originally selected the components, I was not considering running crossfire or SLI, so I picked a Corsair 650HX modular PSU. Since the original selection, my budget has expanded, and I am now considering ordering a 2nd Radeon 5850 to run in crossfire a few months down the line. When I updated my shopping cart and made the purchase, I forgot to take the PSU and my possible future GPU purchase into consideration.

Will the current 650HX PSU be sufficient with two graphics cards (full system build below)?

I have already ordered all the parts from Newegg, and they should arrive at my house tomorrow. Should I return the 650HX before opening it and order a larger PSU if I plan to install a 2nd graphics card in the future? If so, which should I get? 750HX, 850HX? Will Newegg give me any trouble with this return?

Also, I got a $40 combo discount when purchasing the Corsair 700D case with the PSU. This same combo is offered for the 750HX, 850HX, 950TX, and 1000HX. Does anyone know if this would result in a complicated return procedure with Newegg? I really don't want to ship the case back.

A good 650W power supply should be just fine for two 5850s.

Can you tell me, what will be the system used for, & screen size ?

The system is being used mostly for gaming and video playback, but I also multitask pretty heavily. I also do some video encoding, and 3D rendering is a possibility. I have not purchased my new display yet, but I plan to pick up a Dell UltraSharp U2711 by the end of the month, which has a native resolution of 2560x1440. I also plan to purchase a 2nd U2711 in the next 6-8 months.

I went ahead and installed the 650W and will throw it in an old case and build a system for my parents or build an HTPC if I need to upgrade in the future. A friend also reminded me that I'm really not a huge fan of crossfire/SLI due to the power requirements and heat generation. It may be a better option to sell my current card to a friend/co-worker/online if I decide it is not adequate, and just upgrade to a faster single card a generation or two later (or use it in the 2nd system with the 650W PSU, although it's likely overkill for that).
